The rugged coastline of County Donegal is dotted with off-shore islands, most of which are no longer inhabited on a year round basis, but all of which hold a certain fascination for both locals and tourists alike. Perhaps it is the strong connection with literature. We think of J.M. Synge writing “Riders To The Sea”on the Aran Islands; Tomas O’ Croithean with the classic “The Islander” and Peig Sayers with her account of life on the Blaskets ,and finally our own local literary giant, Peadar O’Donnell, who immortalised island life in the Rosses |
